Wordless Wednesday: Ear Plugs

It's not easy convincing a 2 year old that she needs to wear ear protection when around firearms.  But when Grammy does it too, then it's cool!

Watch This!

Monkey did a lot of running around at the Appleseed over the weekend.  One thing she wanted to do over and over again was this:

Ready, set.....

GO!
I'm not sure how great of an idea that was to get started, but oh well, it kept her occupied for a long time!

Appleseed

We had another Appleseed shoot at my parent's range over the weekend.  The turnout was great and the weather was fantastic.  If you weren't there, you missed out!  Here are a few pictures from the weekend.

The firing line.
This is Olivia.  She's eight years old and could tell you everything you need to know about shooting a rifle.

My brother Buck

My Dad helping out a young shooter.

And this is Elaina.  Elaina is an exchange student from Germany who will be staying with my aunt and uncle for 10 months.  She has never even held a firearm before and was excited to have her chance at it.  Here she is taking intructions.

And here are her FIRST ten shots, not too shabby!

Hubby

"Neighbor" Joe, glad you could join us again!

Just a Dog

Along with the awesome Warrior Dash this past weekend, we had some heartache as well.  Poor Leroy and Lucy were both hit by a car.  Leroy is pretty sore and badly bruised, but he's doing okay.  Lucy on the other hand, didn't make it.  Three dogs in a year's time.  Our batting average here, isn't looking so great.

Wordless Wednesday: Warriors!

We made it!  My sisters and I are officially warriors!  This race has officially taken the top spot for my favorite, I'll be doing it again next year, I do believe.

Thursday Thirteen

1. It's here, it's finally here!  The Warrior Dash is THIS WEEKEND!  I'm so excited to be a complete muddy mess while running through varying obstacles.

2. I had lunch with a friend yesterday who has been trying to get pregnant for over four years.  And guess what?  She's pregnant!  I am so beyond happy for her and her husband, I was almost in tears when she told me.

3. And on the pregnancy front... my volleyball team is going to have our very own baby mascot in the spring!  No, I'm not expecting, but one of my team mates is!  I've been covering for her missing games the last couple of weeks, but I finally have permission to tell everyone else tonight!

4.  I'm reading a really interesting book right now, The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker.  It is basically dealing with the myth that most violent acts are unpredictable and shows that they do in fact have clear warning signs and then goes on to show the reader how to recognize survival signs.  It may sound sort of text-book boring, but it's not at all!

5. Their album hasn't even been released yet, but I think I can say with safe certainty that the new group, Pistol Annies, will be one of my favorites.  Love them!

6. We went over to Bath, Illinois, last weekend for the Redneck Fishing Tournament.  It was a ton of fun and we hope to go again next year.  I don't know how I managed to not take a single picture, but somehow I didn't get one.  There were many interesting sights to say the least.

7. Does anyone else find it supremely annoying when you answer the phone and the person on the other end won't tell you who they are or what they want?

8. A co-worker brought in bagels from Panera this morning and specifically got me one of the cinnamon crunch ones.  Made my day!

9. I've booked my flight to go see baby Cort in Oklahoma after he is born!  I can't wait to see Annie and Scott and meet the little man once he's here!

10. Our pups got a hold of yet ANOTHER pair of my boots.  So really, a trip to Oklahoma is needed anyway.  If I'm going to buy a new pair of boots, might as well buy them in Oklahoma, right?

11. We are one month out from the 5K for the VA race.  Are you signed up

12.  I pull in the driveway the other night and what do I see?  Monkey running around the yard... wearing her camo crocks and NOTHING else!  We may have a little exhibitionist on our hands.

13.  Tell me something you are looking forward to... the State Fair, Appleseed (ours is next weekend), autumn, Farm Progress Show, the end of the work day?  You know, anything.

Wordless Wednesday: 90 Years

My grandmother turned 90 years old last Thursday.  We celebrated that night by taking her out to a local steakhouse and then having an open house on Saturday.  You wouldn't know she's 90 by just looking at her, this is one active woman!  I hope that's a gene that I inherited from her.  Here she is opening up her new laptop, you know, gotta keep up with technology these days!

Patio

We started on a project way back in May, and as it happens to do, life got in the way of getting it completed.  It started out with this great vision I had... I wanted to rip out the little brick retaining wall in the front of our house and pour a patio instead.  Here is what it looked like before...

We got the wall ripped out pretty quickly.  But then things came to a little stand still.

Fortunately, we have some pretty great friends and I'm so happy to say that we finally got it poured!

What do you think?  I'm very pleased with the way it turned out, and in my humble opinion, I think it was a pretty genious idea.

Movie Association

Monkey has recently added a new movie to her mix.  While she was watching it last night I snapped this photo:

And a few minutes later she talked Daddy into helping her fly:

Can you guess which movie she has discovered?
