Happy Birthday Peanut!

While taking some photos of Monkey for her birthday, I also snapped some of her cousin Peanut for her 6th birthday.  These girls are more like sisters than cousins, I can only imagine the trouble they will get into when they are older!

Belated

Exactly one month ago, our precocious little girl turned three years old.  I realized last week that I'm a bad mother and never had her pictures taken.  Since JC lavished me with such a nice camera for Christmas, I thought I'd give it a go myself.  I am the FURTHEST thing from a professional photographer that there is, but I do enjoy taking pictures.  So with that said, here are some of the photos I snapped of her...  if you happen to know a thing or two about photography, please feel free to leave some constructive criticism!

Monkey had her first shooting lesson this weekend.  After much safety talk, my older sister gave her some pointers while I snapped away taking pictures.  I just had to document her first time pulling that trigger.  She did so well for her first lesson!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

JC's birthday is today.  I thought I'd sit down with Monkey and ask her some questions about her Daddy.  Here is the Q&A that we had:

How old is Daddy?
A. 25 (Close, he's 35)

What present do you want to get for Daddy?
A. Probably a pony purse or a pink blankie to sleep with.

What's your favorite thing to do with Daddy?
A. Play with him. Oh and swing.  He goes really high.

Why do you like to play with Daddy?
A. He's soooo fun.  And silly.

What is Daddy’s favorite thing to do with you?
A. Chase me around.

What color is Daddy's hair?
A. Yellow... but the hair monster eats it.  (Hair trimmers)

What does Daddy teach you?
A. About guns and bullets.  Don't ever ever touch a gun.  If the bullet is missing the "piece" (primer) then it won't go boom. 

Where does Daddy work?
A. On the turnbines!

What is Daddy's favorite thing to drink?
A. Coffee.  It smells good, but it's not good for me.  I like GramB's cold coffee, it's good.

What is Daddy's favorite food?
A. Eggs

What should we make for Daddy's birthday dinner?
A. Chocolate cupcakes

How strong is your Daddy?
A. Really really strong.  He can lift up boxes.

What makes Daddy smile?
A. Me

What was Daddy like as a little boy?
A. He liked his mommy and daddy to read him books everyday.

How much do you love Daddy?
A. Five much (Five is the favorite number of the moment)

How does Daddy know you love him?
A. I say I love you so much and give hugs and kisses... and butterfly kisses... and eskimo kisses.

I love daddy because…
A. Because I do.  He's my Daddy.

Camp Perry Giveaway

Portobello Mushroom Fries

Monkey isn't a very picky eater overall.  But there are a few things that she's turned her nose up too... mushrooms being one of them.  I have found though, if you just call something 'french fries', then she'll dive right in.  She ate these portobello mushroom fries like they were french fries from McDonald's! 

What You Need:

• 2 Portobello Mushrooms, cut into 1/2 inch slices
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
• 1/4 cup italian bread crumbs
• 1/4 teaspoon creole/bayou seasoning
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• salt and pepper

What You Do:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Mix bread crumbs, seasoning, garlic, salt and pepper in a flat bowl or pie plate.

In another bowl beat eggs.

Dip the slices in eggs and then transfer to bread crumbs, coating both slides thoroughly.

Place on baking sheet in single layer and bake 15 minutes.

Serve with marinara or ranch dressing. 

Kicking Bank of America to the Curb

Have you heard?  Bank of America is against the Second Amendment.  Yes, it's true. 

Kelly McMillan, the CEO of McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Group International, and McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, recently wrote on his Facebook page that Bank of America has refused to do business with his companies because they sell firearms. Bank of America admitted its decision was political. McMillan’s response was to immediately stop doing business with Bank of America. 

Here is McMillan's post:

McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, McMillan Group International have been collectively banking with Bank of America for 12 years. Today Mr. Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking came to my office. He scheduled the meeting as an “account analysis” meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and have become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories.

At this point I interrupted him and asked “Can I possible save you some time so that you don’t waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer what my business.”
“That is correct” he says.

I replied “That is okay, we will move our accounts as soon as possible. We can find a 2nd Amendment friendly bank that will be glad to have our business. You won’t mind if I tell the NRA, SCI and everyone one I know that BofA is not firearms industry friendly?”

“You have to do what you must” he said.

“So you are telling me this is a politically motivated decision, is that right?”

Mr Fox confirmed that it was. At which point I told him that the meeting was over and there was nothing let for him to say.

I think it is import for all Americans who believe in and support our 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms should know when a business does not support these rights. What you do with that knowledge is up to you. When I don’t agree with a business’ political position I can not in good conscience support them. We will soon no longer be accepting Bank of America credit cards as payment for our products.

I actually have a credit card with Bank of America... or I had one.  I'm cancelling it today.  It's nice to see the McMillan Group take a stand for our Constitutional rights.  If they can do it, so can I.  And I suggest you do the same.
