I saw a list a while back of 100 things the author wanted to teach her children. After thinking on it, I thought I'd make my own.
100 Things I Want to Teach My Daughter
- You will always be my baby girl.
- I will never tire of being your mother.
- Beauty is a state of mind, not a state of body.
- The mirror is not the boss of you.
- You are perfect exactly as you are, flaws and all.
- The benefit of the doubt is sometimes the best gift we can give our friends.
- There will always be mean girls – that doesn’t mean we find a tower and Rapunzel ourselves away from the world.
- Your daddy has loved you better and longer than any boy ever will.
- The way a boy treats his mama is a surefire way of how he will treat his wife. Pay attention.
- Set goals.
- You don't need to be everything to everyone.
- In a strong relationship, both people motivate each other to go further in life.
- Food is a joy.
- Your body is strong and capable of more than you can imagine right now.
- Find a hobby you love.
- Cleaning is overrated.
- Music makes everything better.
- Dance and Sing – especially when you’re cleaning.
- Drive with the windows down.
- Nothing you tell me will ever make me want to stop hearing from you.
- Be with someone who won't stay mad at you, who can't stand not talking to you and who's afraid of losing you.
- Don't be afraid to make mistakes... but don't make the same ones twice.
- Washing your face every night is the best kind of beauty routine.
- Sunscreen – your father is a redhead.
- You are NOT a backup plan and definitely not a second choice. Don't let anyone treat you that way.
- A good movie can change how you understand someone else.
- A good song can change your mood.
- Words can build bridges between people.
- Home is not where we live but who we love.
- Staying up late to read a good book is never time wasted.
- Boys and girls can be just friends.
- The best way never to worry about anyone gossiping about you is never to gossip about anybody.
- Good girls aren’t boring.
- Don't do drugs. They are bad and ruin lives.
- Don't smoke. It's an expensive, unhealthy, disgusting habit that is hard to break.
- The movies lie. Passion isn't a contorted exercise on a marble staircase, it's doing the dishes together and lying with your feet touching in bed at the end of a long day.
- Sometimes it's okay to eat ice cream for supper.
- Saying sorry first is a sign of strength not a weakness.
- I’m on your side; especially on the days when it doesn’t feel like it.
- Marriage is an act of courage, commitment and sacrifice. It’s also the most fun you’ll ever have with your best friend.

- Your first kiss should be toasted, treasured, savored. Not something to be forgotten. Choose wisely.
- If it makes you feel uncomfortable, don’t do it, wear it or say it.
- Don't think too much, go with your gut.
- Your dad will teach you how to defend yourself. Listen and learn.
- You can’t go wrong with a good country song.
- Stop for sunsets.
- Think before you speak.
- Instead of focusing on your problems, focus on your joys.
- Take time to enjoy nature.
- Read books. Not just one author or genre either. Explore.

-
The only thing holding you back from making a difference in the world will be yourself.

- Ask questions.
- You’re the most brave when you’re the most scared and keep going anyway.
- Bad haircuts grow out eventually. It's just hair, not the end of the world.
- Don't covet what your friends or neighbors have... you don't know what goes on behind closed doors.
- Nothing will make me love you less.
- You can always come home.
- You will love again.
- Challenge yourself.
- If you ever have a sibling, be there for them, look out and protect them. They will be your best friend when you are older.
- Friends may come and go, but family will always be by your side. Always.

- Be unique.
- Spend as much time with your grandparents as you can.
- Being happy is a choice.
- Be a saver, not a spender.
- If something looks too good to be true, it likely is.
- Do little things for other people.
- Follow your heart, but take your brain with you.
- Be active. Play sports, exercise... but most importantly, have fun.
- Be grateful for what you have. The things you take for granted, someone else is praying for.
- Don't be afraid to pee outside.
- Don't let someone who gave up on their dreams talk you out of yours.
- Take a deep breath, it's just a bad day, not a bad life.
- Everyone you will ever meet knows something that you don't. Learn from them.
- I will be your best friend. But I will be your mother more.
I think this list could have 100 more things on it, but I'll stop here.
