Bird's Nest Take Two

A few years ago, I made these tasty Bird's Nests for Easter.  This year I was a bit of a procrastinator and didn't go grocery shopping to get all the necessities for Easter dinner.  Including the chinese egg noodles that are needed for those nexts.  So instead, I scrambled and altered the recipe a bit by using Cocoa Krispies (6 cups).  I must say, I actually PREFER them this way!

I hope you had a great Easter, we certainly did!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The hubs and I have never really celebrated Valentine's Day.  We do the whole card thing and plan on having supper together, but no presents or chocolates or any of that crap.  It just doesn't hold much appeal for me and let's face it, what man finds it appealing?

This year I was surprised at work with a flower delivery and while it caught me completely off guard, I have to admit that I thought, "Oh that was sweet of him," but in the back of my mind, I was really thinking what a waste of money it was.

Then I got the following text from Monkey's daycare owner...

"Your husband just got the "Coolest Dad on the Planet" Award.  He sent L flowers and a teddy bear for Valentine's Day!"

Now sending me flowers is nice, but sending her flowers?  Superb.

Take heed fellas... we all know the way to a man's heart is through his belly.  The way to a woman's?  Well I think I discovered it's through her kids!

Christmas Program

Lola had her Christmas party at daycare today and the kids sang a bunch of songs for the parents. They were all so darned cute! Here are a couple of videos... the first one Lola had a solo, she was so shy you could barely hear her. So NOT like how she is at home!

Wordless Wednesday: A Time To...

Christmas, it's a time to give and a time to receive.

It's a time to share with friends and family.

It's a time to eat until your stomach literally can't handle any more.

But most of all?  It's a time for aunts and uncles with no children to buy inappropriate gifts for their nieces and nephews.

Thanks Bonnie & Cory.  While I hate for toys to go to waste, this is one that I'm hoping she gets tired of quickly!

Reindeer Donuts

I don't remember where I came across this fun idea, but I knew that we would be doing it for a treat to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve.  Monkey had a lot of fun making them and can't wait to see if Santa gobbles them up!

What You Need:
  • Chocolate Covered Mini Donuts
  • Pretzel M&M's
  • Round Pearl Sprinkles
  • Mini Pretzel Twists
What You Do:

Press a red M&M into the hole of the donut.  Some holes weren't quite big enough, so I used a little dab of red icing for those to make the M&M stay in place.

Press two sprinkles into the donut for the eyes.

Break a mini pretzel in half and insert them into the top of the donut for antlers.

And that's it... easy enough a two-year old can do it!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I explained to Monkey what Thanksgiving was and asked her what she was thankful for, here is her response:

From the Bottom of My Heart, Thank You.

Thank you to all of our service men and women. For those currently fighting, those who have defended us in the past and those who have paid the ultimate price.

"This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave."

Vampire Cookies

Monkey and I got into the Halloween spirit over the weekend by making these cookies.  Not only were they scary, but they tasted good too!

What You'll Need:
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies (you can use your favorite recipe or buy the refrigerated pre-made kind)
  • Red Frosting
  • Miniature Marshmallows
  • Slivered almonds
What You Do:
Prepare cookies as directed.  Let cool completely.

Cut each cookie in half.

Frost bottoms of all cookies.  Place 6 marshmallow "teeth" around the outside of 1/2 of the cookies.  I found it useful to place an extra marshmallow behind the "teeth" to add support.

Top with remaining halves.

Insert two almond slivers in between teeth for fangs.  If they don't stick, dip tips into frosting.

Here is Monkey demonstrating how easy it is!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to the two most important men in my life....

To the one who taught me how to dance,

who holds his daughter's shoes while they frolick in the water,

And lets his grandaughter take the wheel.

And to the one who gave me the most amazing little girl in the world,

Teaches our daughter to always get back up on that horse,

And is willing to lend a helping hand.

I hope your Father's Days were as awesome as you both are!

Four Generations of Awesomness

I spent Mother's Day making my own breakfast, taking my daughter to the doctor to get treated for pink eye, working in the garden, and doing laundry.  Sounds like fun, no?

I did take time out to relax a little though and met up with family for lunch.  Here are four generations of pretty cool ladies :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Weekend Update

We had a great weekend celebrating Easter and Monkey's birthday.  A lot of family time was had, her two out-of-state aunts (also known as Bugs) were able to come home for the weekend.  They took her shopping to pick out her present, most kids in a toy store would be excited about all the prospects.  Not this one... they would pick out something let her hold it and ask if she wanted it, she'd look at it and say with all seriousness... Nope.  Finally they settled on this...

I think it was a hit.

We had a cookout at our house for her birthay and also an Easter egg hunt.  I didn't think Monkey would be too into it, but it turns out she was!

The weather held out for us and ended up being a gorgeous day.  Thanks to everyone who came out to help us celebrate!

Luck o' the Irish

Myself and a small group of friends did our first race of the year on Saturday.  I haven't ran since early December and wasn't really looking forward to it, besides it being a St. Patty's day race and I knew there was surely fun to be had.

Once we got there, I was elated to find out it was not only a St. Patty's day race, but it was ONLY a 3K instead of a 5K!  I thought life couldn't have gotten any better at that point for me.... until the green beer started flowing!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
